Story

Purpose-led homewares brand Obakki's incredible Mexican textile artist, Mariella, creates impressive large-scale wall art and draped thread lampshades that hang in high-end hotels and restaurants from Cancun to Cabo. Her work is a stunning combination of textiles and illusion from her observations of nature and the time she spends in her garden. She uses dyes from plants and her magic fabric threads are recycled bits – sourced from used clothing, discarded, and destined for landfills.

Mariella studied fashion and textile design at the European Institute for Design in Barcelona, Spain where her formal training gave her the confidence and authority to create her magnificent art as she saw it.
